Au revoir

Okay, so it is widely known that I can't stand Gérard Depardieu. It was all those horrible films that my stupid high school French teacher made us watch, like Le Retour de Martin Guerre and Jean de Florette. Blech. Plus, let's not forget that atrocity that was Green Card. I hate Andie MacDowell, too.
Despite his genetic curse, Gérard had an awesome son, Guillame Depardieu. This guy was totally rad. He was surprisingly good-looking, too. I couldn't believe that he was sired by Gérard. He and his father didn't get along (surprise!) and he left home. He was poor and worked as prostitute. He was a badass and was put in jail for threatening a dude with a gun. He was fierce and unafraid to take risks for his art. He was in the movie Pola X, a film by Leos Carax that featured a score by Scott Walker, a story by Herman Melville, and Guillame going full-on with an lovely actress. The movie is so weird its in a class by itself and I've watched it over and over. Get the DVD and listen to Guillame's full-length commentary after you've watched it once, it's really bizarre and incredible. The guy was balls-out, both literally and figuratively.
We lost Guillame to pneumonia, of all things. Here's an obituary by The Guardian that pretty much sums it up. There aren't many French actors that I really dig, but he was one of the few.
